Placer blanks Del Campo in rubber match

There was enough of a break in the rain Saturday for Placer and Del Campo to meet in Carmichael in the rubber match of their three-game Foothill Valley League baseball series. The Hillmen and Cougars split a doubleheader on March 8 in Auburn. It was a pitcher's duel through five innings before Placer scored in the sixth and seventh innings to claim a 3-0 victory and win the first league series of the season. Placer's duo of Gavin Otis and Jayson Glatt were dominant on the mound, surrendering one hit. Otis, a sophomore, hurled 6 1/3 innings, struck out seven, walked two and allowed one hit. Glatt recorded two quick outs to preserve the victory. The Hillmen had 10 hits and reached on three errors. Junior Sam Mowry's RBI single on a line drive to right field scored Robby Silski in the sixth to open the scoring. Otis had an RBI single in the seventh that scored Dolen Gendron, and Silski drove in Devin Knight with a sacrifice fly. Silski, Knight, Mowry and Jack Addison each collected two hits. Placer (4-3) will next face sputtering Roseville (3-6). The Tigers were considered a league favorite entering the season but were swept by Yuba City last week. Roseville was scheduled to host Placer on Tuesday and Wednesday before the Hillmen host the series finale Friday under the lights at James Field.
