Roseville Moose Lodge celebrates milestone with week of events

A Roseville service organization is celebrating a historic milestone: Roseville Moose Lodge is celebrating 100 years in the community with a week of events and festivities, beginning this weekend. The Loyal Order of Moose, a fraternal and service organization founded in 1888 in Louisville, Kentucky, by Dr. John Hendry Wilson, began as a social club for men. Over time, it evolved into an organization that offered support to families and other community services. "The Moose" is now a global organization with about 1,300 lodges in the U.S., Canada and Great Britain. According to a statement from the organization, Moose Lodges annually contribute between $75 million and $100 million to local communities. The Roseville Moose Lodge reportedly provided nearly $60,000 to support local nonprofits and offered thousands of volunteer hours to groups such as Placer Breast Cancer Foundation, Lost But Not Forgotten, Roseville High School, Sacramento Blue Star Moms, Woodcreek High School, Placer Veterans Stand Down, Roseville Girls Softball, Gigi's Playhouse, Placer Sportsmen Kids Fishing Derby and Roseville Police Activities League. Mike Hazen has been an active member of the organization for nearly 10 years and has served on the board in various positions; now, he's the treasurer. Hazen said being a part of the Roseville Moose Lodge is a fulfilling experience that never gets old. "What drives me is how we help nonprofits in the community and give back. When we give a donation, we ask them to come in on a Thursday Taco Night and do a check presentation," explained Hazen. "Seeing those kids when we give them donations and support in the community is really what I love. What it's about for me personally is what we do giving back to the kids and community." The celebrations begin Saturday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m., with a ribbon cutting on the front steps of the Carnegie Museum at 557 Lincoln Street. It will be held in conjunction with the Roseville Historical Society and Roseville Chamber of Commerce. A new Roseville Moose Lodge historical exhibit will also be on display. There will be a second ribbon cutting Saturday, Aug. 9, at 4:45 p.m. at the Roseville Moose Lodge at 506 Lincoln Street. Other events include: Sunday, Aug. 3: Breakfast at the Roseville Moose Lodge from 9-11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4: Game Night at the Roseville Moose Lodge and dart tournament with a potluck from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5: Granny/Grampy Bonus Bingo at the Roseville Moose Lodge along with dinner and a costume contest from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6: Happy Hour at the Monk's Cellar between 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7: Taco Night and Money Match with special anniversary raffle prizes from 6-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9: 100-year Anniversary Dinner and live music.
