Girls volleyball: Rocklin, Woodcreek, Del Oro sweep into round 2

The top-seeded Rocklin High School girls volleyball team wasted no time asserting its dominance Tuesday night, sweeping No. 16 Atwater 3–0 in the opening round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs. The Thunder won convincingly with set scores of 25–10, 25–8, and 25–15. Rocklin's balanced attack overwhelmed the Falcons from the start. Senior Gianna Bogan led the Thunder with eight kills, while Sidney Jones and Addy Scheitlin added seven and six. Freshman Iliya Little showed that the bright lights of the postseason were not too much for her as she added six kills. Senior setter Ava Pabalate kept the offense moving with 14 assists and two aces, while sophomore Reese Roberts matched her with 14 assists of her own. Devon Schweitzer led the Thunder defensively with 12 digs. Rocklin's defense was flawless as a unit with 49 digs as a team and no defensive errors. Senior Rylee Heinz stood tall at the net three total blocks, helping Rocklin control play from start to finish. The Thunder (31-4) will face No. 8 Vacaville (25-11) on Thursday night. Woodcreek 3, Whitney 0: The 15th-seeded Whitney Wildcats saw their season come to an end Tuesday night at the hands of No. 2 Woodcreek in the first round of the D-II playoffs. The Timberwolves were in control all night, taking down the Wildcats 25–18, 25–12, and 25–14. Lilliana Saldivar powered Woodcreek with 18 kills while freshman Katelyn Hull and sophomore Mya Taylor each added nine. Senior setter Madison Walsh dished out 22 assists and added 10 digs on defense. Fellow senior Jayden Morales chipped in nine assists and three aces from the service line, helping Woodcreek sustain its momentum throughout the match. The Timberwolves' front line was equally dominant, with Hull and Ashlee Williams combining for six total blocks to shut down Whitney's offense. Saldivar and Walsh each posted double-digit digs as Woodcreek's defense held strong in the back row. The Timberwolves faced No. 7 Rio Americano in the semifinals Thursday. Del Oro 3, Fairfield-Armijo 0: Del Oro volleyball made quick work of Armijo on Tuesday night, sweeping the visiting Royals 3–0 in the opening round of the D-II playoffs. The Golden Eagles controlled the match from start to finish, rolling to set wins of 25–13, 25–7, and 25–12. No. 3 Del Oro will now host No. 6 Vista del Lago on Thursday night.
