Rocklin Public Market project moves forward

A developer submitted an application last month for the proposed Rocklin Public Market project at the Big Gun Quarry property downtown. Developer G3 Concepts bought the vacant, three-acre property from the city for $950,000 last year under the Surplus Land Act, which helps streamline housing development. The company submitted a $21,000 application for a design review to the Rocklin Planning Department on Oct. 9. G3 develops commercial and multi-family projects, including the San Luis Obispo Public Market, which it owns and operates with more than 20 diverse businesses. The Rocklin Public Market is a request for a design review and conditional use permit to construct and operate the mixed-use center in the Rocklin Business Attraction, Retention and Revitalization Overlay Zone. The project is essentially four buildings and a central plaza on a site overlooking Quarry Park. The plan includes a two-story retail building, a two-floor market hall and a two story-brewery and restaurant. The fourth building will be a three-story, mixed-use building with 20 residential units above the ground-floor commercial space, according to the application. The project also includes a new parking lot designed to function together with nearby city-owned parking areas. The city of Rocklin is processing the application for approval. The request is now being reviewed for compliance with the regulations of relevant city, state and federal agencies and utility providers. Once any issues have been resolved, public notice of a hearing date will alert neighbors and other interested parties to review information and comment on the proposal, staff said.
