New life for Old Town Auburn Post Office

There's more excitement in the air in Old Town lately. The Old Town Post Office that has been closed for several years is alive with activity. People in period costume are out front welcoming passers-by and inviting them in to see the interior of the post office. The vintage boxes from 1893 are intact and the place is freshly scrubbed after years of neglect. The Placer County Historical Society, in conjunction the City of Auburn and Old Town Business Association, is opening the building at 1583 Lincoln Way as a History and Welcome Center. The soft opening was the weekend of Nov. 15 and the response from the community has been incredibly supportive. About 150 people dropped in that first weekend. The Open House will be Dec. 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. The public is invited to stop and see. There will be light refreshments and lots of recruiting to get more volunteers to help keep the doors open. Community support will be essential if the town is to preserve this gem of history. The Ramirez family, property owners, have played a vital part in assisting the society in this endeavor.
