Food, lights, fireworks at Colfax Winterfest

The Colfax community pooled its human resources and created a stellar event to begin the holiday season last weekend. Craft vendors and food services lined Main Street and provided lots of opportunity for shopping and visiting with friends. A perennial favorite, the Soroptimist Soup Kitchen, celebrated its 37th annual event at the Sierra Vista Community Center. All you can eat was the rule and diners munched happily while awaiting results of the gift raffles. The Colfax High School girls soccer players provided table service and general assistance to all the details of the event. Colfax Lions sponsored their annual Light Parade, and this year's extravaganza was one of the best in recent memory. Police and fire services, the Nevada Union High School band and dozens of private and club floats kept the hundreds of spectators cheering and applauding. An end-of-the-evening fireworks show was a fitting wrap to a wonderful community event.
