Paula Maxwell 6/01/1954 - 12/01/2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Paula Ann Maxwell, an extraordinary woman, intrepid adventurer, and dear friend to many. Paula was born on June 1,1954 and after a brief illness, passed away on December 1, 2025. Throughout her life, she impacted many people with her generosity, sincerity, and kindness. Paula was born in Auburn, CA, attended Placer High School, and then went on to study at Chico State, earning a degree in psychology. She attended graduate school at San Jose State where she received her M.S. in Marriage and Family Counseling and then Saint Mary's College for her MBA. Paula's love of travel and exploration took her on many incredible adventures around the world. She was thrilled to see new places and discover new cultures, but at the heart of her travels was the possibility of meeting new people and establishing lifelong friendships. She had an unwavering knack for connecting with those around her. Trips to Bodega Bay, martinis with her Pom Poms, and creating beautiful masterpieces of art with her quilts were so important to Paula. She also loved to entertain and often had gatherings at her beautiful home. She was a gracious host and a fantastic cook. Everyone who came to her home felt welcome and special. Among the many milestones of her well-lived life, Paula met and married her beloved husband, Bob Bugay. They enjoyed traveling, caring for their bonsai trees, frequenting local restaurants and art galleries, and watching beautiful sunrises and sunsets. They enjoyed many happy years together. Paula is preceded in death by her parents, Jean and Jack Maxwell, and by her husband Bob. She is survived by her siblings Sandra Maxwell, Matt (Marian) Maxwell, and John (Jennifer) Maxwell, by her nieces and nephews, and by her two stepdaughters Chris (Grant) Taylor and Cindy Haight. Paula's legacy of friendship and generosity will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her remarkable life will forever be an inspiration, a testament to the power of love, curiosity and connectivity. Her listening ear and hugs will be greatly missed. &emsp;&emsp; At Paula's request, there will not be a service or celebration of life. We encourage people to consider doing something positive for others. An act of kindness would be a fitting way to honor her.
