The Auburn Area Democratic Club (AADC) invites the public to a membership meeting Thursday, Feb. 5, to hear Gold Mountain California News Media Editor Bill Poindexter spin stories about what it's like to be editor of an entire cluster of weeklies, plus the Auburn Journal. Get a behind-the-scenes look at covering political turmoil and rural struggles during an unprecedented time in American history. How do you get your article or your letter to the editor in the newspaper? A free press is the foundation for democracy because readers need to know the facts, but how does an editor balance the often-conflicting perspectives of the public? Coffee Talk Coffee Talk will host Cristine Kelly, CEO of the Community Foundation of Nevada County, on Wednesday, Feb, 4, from 9-11 a.m. at the Community Church of Nevada City, 300 Main St. The foundation connects people, resources and ideas to support the nearly 600 nonprofits in the community. Coffee Talk is an informal gathering of thoughtful, open-minded people who have no particular political agenda, only a shared concern for thewellbeing of the communities in Grass Valley, Nevada City and Auburn. Speaker will be speaker Eileen Speaker of the Placer Community Foundation will be the featured speaker at the next meeting of Auburn Gold Country Rotary on Thursday, Feb. 5, at Awful Annie's, located at 13460 Lincoln Way. Auburn Gold Country Rotary meets every Thursday at noon. Speaker will provide an update on the Placer Community Foundation. This should be an entertaining and informative presentation. Rose Society to meet The Gold Country Rose Society will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the Rose Room at Auburn City Hall, 1225 Lincoln Way. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. Featured speakers Ann Marie Santana and Cindy Nalepa-Nelson will discuss "The Roses of Japan." These ladies have attended the World Federation of Rose Societies' Conference in Fukuyama, Japan, known as the city of a million roses. They will report on the many excellent speakers at the conference with the focus on the children of Japan being taught about roses. The Gold Country Rose Society was formed to answer questions in the care, raising and propagating roses in the Placer County area. Refreshments will be served.
