Lincoln WWII veteran, educator celebrates 103rd birthday

Summerset Senior Living celebrated a remarkable milestone this week as Eustaquio "Stoc" Cortez, a World War II veteran and lifelong educator, marked his 103rd birthday surrounded by family, former students, residents and staff. The casino-themed celebration honored Stoc's New Year's resolution to visit a casino, with Summerset bringing the casino experience to him. Music, laughter, cake and heartfelt moments filled the room as loved ones gathered to celebrate his life and legacy. Former students returned to honor the teacher who shaped their lives. Stoc taught automotive studies at San Jose City College and Evergreen Community College, mentoring countless students along the way. One former student, Daniel Reyes, came to him as a teenager with little English and later went on to become a college instructor at Gavilan Community College in Gilroy, crediting Stoc as the mentor who helped change his life. Stoc's impact spans generations through service, teaching and mentorship.
