Northern California Youth Chorus receives grant to expand access to choral music for local youth

The Northern California Youth Chorus (NCYC) has been awarded a grant from the Dennis Mangers Fund for Young Performing Artists through the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, supporting the chorus' ongoing work to make high-quality choral training accessible to children and youth across the greater Sacramento region. Founded nearly two decades ago, NCYC provides in-person classical choral education for singers ages 7-18 from Placer, Sacramento and El Dorado counties. Through structured weekly rehearsals, professional instruction and frequent performances, NCYC offers a pathway for young singers to develop musical skill, confidence and a strong sense of belonging. "This support allows us to continue doing what we do best, building confidence, life skills and connection. We're thrilled to open the door to more singers, helping them discover what their voices are capable of," said Judy Britts, NCYC founder and artistic director. Grant funds will help sustain affordable tuition and support outreach and enrollment costs for local students, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent talented young singers from participating in NCYC's comprehensive choral program. The Dennis Mangers Fund for Young Performing Artists, administered by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, supports youth performing arts programs that expand access to high-quality training for students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue their artistic passions. As part of this grant-supported work, the chorus is inviting families, educators and community members to engage – whether by enrolling new singers, attending performances or supporting the arts locally. "We know there are children who love to sing and just need the invitation," Britts said. "This grant helps us extend that invitation more broadly and welcome new voices into our community."
