Lincoln Youth Art Exhibition draws nearly 200, celebrates creativity, community

Creativity, pride and community spirit (and pizza and snacks donated by community businesses!) filled the Art League of Lincoln gallery last Saturday as nearly 200 residents gathered for the artists reception of the fourth annual Lincoln Youth Art Exhibition, an event celebrating student artists from elementary through high school across Lincoln schools. Families, teachers, friends and neighbors packed the downtown gallery to admire a wide range of student artwork displayed in a professional gallery setting. At least six walls of the gallery were filled with artworks, and 13 art pieces were sold at the event. "When young people see their work displayed and supported by the community, it builds confidence and belonging," said Olga Rodriguez, operations manager for the Art League of Lincoln. "This exhibit shows our students that their creativity matters and that the arts have a place in their lives and in our city." This year's exhibition also introduces a People's Choice Award, giving visitors the opportunity to vote for their favorite student artwork. Community members can view the exhibit and cast their votes at the 6th & F St. gallery on Thursdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. until it ends Feb. 1. Winners will be announced in February. The Art League of Lincoln is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting artists of all ages and providing access to, and strengthening, the arts throughout the Lincoln community through exhibitions, education and community engagement.
