Woman, baby hit by truck in Auburn crosswalk

A woman and a baby sustained head trauma Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 28, when they were hit by a truck in a Downtown Auburn crosswalk. The Auburn Police Department received a call at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday reporting the incident at Cleveland Ave. and High St. Auburn Patrol Sergeant Anthony Davis said the driver of a Toyota truck was turning left from Cleveland onto High when he hit the woman and baby, who was in a stroller. "He was unable to see her entering the intersection," Davis said, noting the sun was "certainly a contributing factor." Both victims sustained "some" head trauma, according to Davis, and were transported by AMR to Sutter Roseville for treatment. The woman was conscious as she received treatment from first responders in the middle of High St., as was the baby. "You could hear the baby alert and screaming, which is good," Davis said. "This is what we want to hear. You hear screaming, that is life." The truck driver remained at the scene, and a DUI test was negative, Davis said. "Life's precious," Davis said. "You want to drive slow, you want to take it all in, pay attention to your surroundings because a child, their ball could easily bounce across the street and induce another critical incident. You always gotta drive with caution."
