They are so obvious … the workers would have jobs, the revenues from such an operation would remain and the whole economy of the area would benefit. We urge you to support the "Save our Pottery" effort both in spirit and with your offer of financial support. Interpace Corporation, which announced last week the impending closing of its Lincoln plant, reported this week, subject to final audit, record overall earnings of $11,143,000 for the year 1975. Based on average shares outstanding, this was equal to $3.64 per common share, an increase of 27.7 percent over the $2.85 per common share earned in 1974. Revenues for 1975 of $296,988,000 were also at a new high, increasing at 21.2 percent from revenues of $245,040,000 in 1974. Fourth quarter, 1975 net income was $3,280,000 compared with $2,646,000 for the same period in 1974. Earnings per common share rose to $1.10 per common share, up 27.9 percent from.86 cents in the fourth quarter 1974. Revenues for the fourth quarter 1975 were $78,352,000 compared with $69,302,000 a year ago. William R. Hartman, president and chief executive officer, said, "Our performance in 1975 was the result of two major factors – a well-balanced mix of markets served and the company's strong competitive position in these markets. The plant was purchased by the current owner, Pacific Coast Building Products, Inc. who restored the name back to Gladding, McBean. 75 years ago Population 2,410 (U.S. Census 1940 and 1950) March of Dimes: Lincoln's March of Dimes campaign got off to a good start with a total of $268.98 turned in to the chairman, Eldridge Trott, as of noon today. This sum does not include what has been turned in to the county office by mail. The biggest contribution was $78.30, which was turned in by George Perry, manager of the Lincoln Theatre. The sum was collected last Friday and Saturday nights during the regular show. An appeal for the March of Dimes by Dorothy Hayward, local polio victim, and her father, Joe B. Hayward, started the two-day campaign at the theatre. The largest individual contribution came from Mr. and Mrs. Bill Morrison of the Fruitvale District and their two small children. They expressed their gratitude to the Placer County Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, for the help received by their son while he was stricken with polio. The Morrisons have had first-hand experience with the wonderful work and treatment which polio victims receive as a result of the Foundation. They are urging every individual to make a contribution, no matter how small for, as they expressed it, polio does not respect age, position or money when it attacks. In connection with the local campaign for the March of Dimes, the offer of a hospital bed to the Lincoln Rotary has been made by Giles Chittenden if the organization will donate at least $50 to the local campaign. The bed may be used by the Rotary Club as it sees fit. Jerry Jansen, president of the club, said he felt sure that before the end of the drive more than that sum would be turned in from the club. In addition to card parties and other social affairs being held or planned by clubs and organizations to swell the fund, a house-to-house march by the Camp Fire Girls and Boy Scouts will be held this Saturday between 6 and 7 p.m. Everyone is urged to meet these young people at the doors of their home with some contribution. They are giving their time so some other child may walk again. No check has been made of the containers in the business houses of Lincoln yet. These containers will remain in the stores until Friday, Feb. 9, according to present plans, and reports on the amounts collected will be published each week until all contributions are in. Clubs and organizations may continue sending in their contributions after the active campaign has closed. 100 years ago Population 1,324 (U.S. Census 1900, 1910, and 1920) Chamber of Commerce: The committees on soliciting membership for 1926 are starting out on their campaign of soliciting old members to renew their affiliations and new members to come in. While the work of the Chamber of Commerce may not be very visible to some of us, in reality, it has done much good in the neighborhood and will do more good if we will only get behind it. There is not a paid official connected with it; all workers give their time and energy gratis, hence deserve commendation for that. What is of interest to individuals is of interest to all. The way to find the worth of an organization is to get into it, see what it is doing to help to further all good things it proposes and fight all the bad things, but further, stand and fight from the inside, not stand outside. They need your counsel. By joining the C of C, you will always be able to get first-hand information on any proposition that may come before it, and be in a better position to commend or condemn. Join the Chamber of Commerce and be active in the administration of its affairs and you will not only be a benefit to it and its working personnel, but it will be a benefit to you and give you a broader vision of progress. Round-up: Officers Provine and Beermann made a round-up of suspicious characters this week, which resulted in the floating out of town a woman who could not explain her business here and a man with the same business. A few others are under surveillance by the officers. One fellow is awaiting the action of Judge Grey. Local business: Saturday night is a mighty good time to ask yourself this question: "Is our community sending more money out of town than is coming in each week?" Of course, the only safe answer is "NO!" This means we folks in this neighborhood must patronize local supply men and merchants if we expect our town to prosper and "stay on the map." Frankly, it means every citizen will find it most profitable to read the advertisements in this paper every issue, and to follow their good advice.
