Lincoln police investigate homicide after fatal shooting

Lincoln police are investigating a homicide after a man died from multiple gunshot wounds Tuesday evening in a residential neighborhood near the 1200 block of Hillwood Loop. According to a news release from the Lincoln Police Department, officers responded shortly before 6 p.m. Feb. 3 after receiving a 911 call from a man who reported he shot another individual inside a residence after the person allegedly approached him with a knife. When officers arrived, they detained Zachary Siegfried, 35, without incident. Inside the home, officers and emergency medical personnel located an adult male suffering from multiple apparent gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. "Officers responded to the scene and located one male who had been shot, we believe multiple times," Lincoln Police Department Capt. Zach Eaton said. "Unfortunately, that individual has passed away." Due to the nature of the incident, Lincoln police detectives and a crime scene investigator assumed control of the investigation, with investigators from the Placer County District Attorney's Office also responding to assist. Authorities conducted a thorough search of the residence and surrounding area for evidence and potential witnesses, and a firearm was recovered from the home. Following interviews and scene processing, Siegfried was arrested on suspicion of homicide and booked into the South Placer County Jail. Eaton said police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities said they are not searching for any additional suspects. "We believe that everybody involved is contained at this time," said Eaton. Eaton said investigators believe the victim and Siegfried knew each other, though that had not been confirmed. The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. The incident occurred in the same neighborhood as a December 2024 shooting on Earlton Lane that also resulted in a death. This investigation remains in its preliminary stages.
