Trojans roll over St. Francis to earn piece of SFL title

Oak Ridge High's varsity girls' basketball team is in a good place. The team has two games remaining against the two-best teams not named Oak Ridge in the league and have already wrapped up at least a piece of the Sierra Foothill League championship. The undefeated 12-0 Trojans have a 2 ½ game lead on Del Oro and Folsom (9-2). Even if they lose both games next week, they're still guaranteed to share the league title. But, make no mistake, not only does Oak Ridge want to have the league title all to themselves, but they also want to beat both Del Oro on Tuesday and Folsom next Friday, badly. Oak Ridge wrapped up the league championship on Thursday night with a 76-40 drubbing of St. Francis. The team struggled at the opening tip, as the first three minutes were rough. After a timeout, however, the team was off and running and St. Francis couldn't keep up. By the end of the first quarter, Oak Ridge led 21-6 and they just added on to the lead from there. For the Trojans, it was a two-man show all night as Sophie Ross and Leah Harris were exceptional. Ross outscored the entire St. Francis team in the first quarter, as she scored 10 of her game-high 25 points in the first eight minutes. Harris finished with 21 points, as the two Trojans outscored the entire St. Francis team 46-40. "We wanted to make sure we didn't come out complacent and came out ready to play," Oak Ridge coach Briana Dulgar said. "We wanted to play with the same intensity we've played with the last few games and continue to excel with our transition basketball and just being disciplined switching up our defenses I felt we did that." With two games remaining in the regular season, against two playoff teams, essentially the playoffs are here for the Trojans and Dulgar likes where her team is at and how they're playing. "I think we're in a good place," Dulgar said. "Coaches are never satisfied; there is always room to improve. We just need to find tune things, continue to build chemistry and add to our basketball IQ. We're in a good place, but we're not done yet."
