Folsom students step into careers during job shadow day

Hundreds of Folsom Cordova Unified School District students traded their desks for workplaces Feb. 3 during the district's annual Career Technical Education Job Shadow Day, gaining hands-on exposure to potential future careers ranging from engineering and computer science to healthcare and public service. Students partnered with more than 20 local businesses and government agencies, including Dokken Engineering, Marshall Medical Center, Sacramento Police Department, Crocker Art Museum and the City of Folsom to explore professions aligned with their career interests. The experiential learning opportunity allowed young people to observe professionals in action while asking questions about educational requirements, daily responsibilities and career advancement in fields they are considering pursuing after graduation. Following their workplace visits, students and business partners gathered for a catered lunch prepared and served by Cordova High School culinary arts students, showcasing the practical skills developed through the district's career pathways programs. Superintendent Erik Swanson addressed attendees, emphasizing the importance of community partnerships in helping students envision their professional futures. The event also featured presentations from students sharing how career technical education programs have shaped their academic goals and career aspirations.
