Local soccer teams excel in first-round playoff games

In the first round of soccer playoffs, local teams won 12 of 14 games on the girls' side and eight of 11 on the boys' side. In Division 4, all four teams advanced, as Twelve Bridges, the No. 2 seed, defeated Wheatland 7-0; Oakmont, the No. 3 seed, defeated Union Mine 2-0, Placer, the fifth seed, got by Casa Roble 3-1, and Lincoln, the seventh seed, beat Nevada Union 2-1. In Division 3, all three teams advanced. Colfax, the No. 1 seed, had a bye, Vista del Lago, the No. 2 seed, got by Patterson 2-0, and No. 6 Roseville defeated Antelope 1-0. In Division 2, Rocklin, Whitney and Woodcreek all won their games; Rocklin, the No. 2 seed, beat West 4-0, Whitney, the No. 5 seed, got by Laguna Creek 4-2 and Woodcreek, the sixth seed, trounced Kennedy 8-0. The only team that lost was Granite Bay, the eighth seed, 1-0 to Rio Americano. Del Oro, the No. 2 seed in Division 1, opened with a 10-0 win over Tokay while West Park, the fifth seed, beat River City 3-1. Oak Ridge, the 16th seed that defeated Folsom 1-0 in the play-in game, lost to top-seeded Gregori 4-1. The second round of the girls playoffs will be played Monday. Games include the following: Davis at Del Oro, West Park at Pleasant Grove, Manteca at Rocklin, Whitney at Vacaville, Woodcreek at St. Mary's, Ponderosa at Colfax, Roseville at Sierra, Buhach Colony at Vista del Lago, Lincoln at Twelve Bridges, Weston Ranch at Oakmont and Placer at Ripon. All games will begin at 6 p.m. On the boys' side, in Division 4, No. 7 Placer defeated No. 10 Lincoln 1-0, while No. 12 Oakmont lost to Woodland 4-1. In Division 3, both local teams advanced, as the sixth-seed Roseville defeated Mira Loma 2-0 while the ninth seed, Vista del Lago, got by Pacheco 5-2. In Division 2, all four local teams got past the first round, as top-seeded Granite Bay defeated Tracy 3-0, second seed Rockin beat Rio Americano 2-1, fourth-seeded Woodcreek defeated Vacaville 2-1, and sixth-seeded Whitney beat Grant 3-1. In Division I, West Park, the 17th seed, won a play-in game, beating Tokay 1-0 before nearly pulling the upset over top-seeded Inderkum before losing 5-4 in penalty kicks. Oak Ridge, the No. 8 seed, got by Pleasant Grove 5-2. Second-round games will be played Tuesday. The match-ups include Oak Ridge at Inderkum, Atwater at Granite Bay, Johansen at Rocklin, Jesuit at Woodcreek, and Whitney at Pitman, Roseville at Christian Brothers, Vista del Lago at River Valley, and Placer at East Union. All of these games will be played at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
