California State Parks Week offers free activities for families planning summer adventures

Families looking to kickstart their summer vacation plans can discover California's 280 state parks during the fifth annual California State Parks Week from June 10-14, a statewide celebration of outdoor recreation presented by California State Parks, California State Parks Foundation, Parks California and Save the Redwoods League. Families can explore nearby destinations, including Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, Auburn State Recreation Area and other regional parks that offer hiking, water sports, gold rush history and wildlife viewing opportunities. This year's theme, "This Is Where You Live," reminds residents that remarkable outdoor experiences await close to home, from lakeside beaches and river canyons to historic trails throughout the greater Sacramento region. The weeklong event supports Gov. Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom's Outdoor Access for All initiative, which works to expand outdoor recreation access for all Californians through improved facilities and programming, with particular focus on communities that have traditionally faced barriers to enjoying public lands. Parks across the state will offer special activities, guided programs and volunteer projects designed to welcome first-time visitors and help seasoned park-goers explore new areas before summer crowds arrive.
