West Park remains unbeaten, advances to D-I semis

West Park's varsity girls' soccer team kept its undefeated record in tact on Monday, as they defeated Pleasant Grove 1-1 (3-1 in PKs), in the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. With West Park trailing at halftime, 1-0, two freshmen combined to tie the game, as Meyers Hamm tied the game at one with a goal that was assisted by Olivia Miller. Junior Taylor Rutledge was the winning goaltender, as she made four saves during the game. West Park, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, advances to play top-seeded Gregori on Wednesday for the right to advance to Saturday's championship game. In Division 2, the Whitney Wildcats lost to Vacaville on the road in penalty kicks. The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. No penalty kick score was given when this story was published. On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 seed Rocklin and No. 6 seed Woodcreek advanced to the semifinals. Rocklin defeated Manteca, 4-0, while Woodcreek got by St. Mary's, 1-0. These two teams will play at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Rocklin with the winner advancing to the championship game on Saturday. Vista del Lago, the No. 2 seed in Division 3, whipped up on Buhach Colony, 8-0, to advance to the semifinals where they will face Sierra, who defeated Roseville, 2-1. In Division 4, two local teams will also face off the semifinals on Wednesday, as No. 3 Oakmont will play No. 2 Twelve Bridges. Oakmont defeated Weston Ranch, 1-0, while Twelve Bridges got by Lincoln, 6-0. Placer saw its season come to an end after losing to Ripon, 4-2.
