Local girls basketball teams advance in playoffs

Division I Folsom, the No. 3 seed, defeated No. 14 Modesto-Gregori, 64-40, and will face No. 6 McClatchy in Thursday's second-round game. Oak Ridge, the No. 2 seed, dominated No. 15 Pleasant Grove, 58-14, and will take on No. 10 Davis in their next matchup. Twelfth-seeded Granite Bay was unable to pull an upset, falling to No. 5 Vanden, 73-31. All quarterfinal games are scheduled for Thursday. Division II Fifth-seeded Woodcreek won convincingly in its playoff opener, downing No. 12 Merced, 77-56. The Timberwolves will visit No. 4 Merced-El Capitan in the quarterfinals. Del Oro defeated No. 14 Ponderosa, 48-31, sending the third-seeded Lady Eagles through to the next round. Three-time defending section champion No. 6 Colfax blew past No. 11 St. Francis, setting up a clash with No. 3 Del Oro. Tenth-seeded Whitney was unable to pull an upset on the road, falling to No. 7 Grant, 83-49. Division III Top-seeded Placer blew by Florin, 75-16, setting up a rematch with No. 9 Rio Linda. The Lady Knights eliminated the Hillgals in the quarterfinals last season, but Placer defeated Rio Linda in December. Fifth-seeded Lincoln was upset by No. 12 Pioneer, 56-49, while No. 4 Twelve Bridges blasted No. 13 Oakmont, 83-56. The Lady Rhinos will host Pioneer Thursday night. Division IV No. 9 Valley Christian fell to No. 8 Sutter, 62-43, on the road, while No. 11 Bear River was unable to keep pace with No. 6 Union Mine in El Dorado, falling 58-46. Division V No. 12 Western Sierra fell to No. 5 Mariposa County, 59-47. Third-seeded John Adams Academy-El Dorado Hills blew past No. 14 Denair, 67-27.
