50 YEARS AGO(Oct. 21, 1960 Issue)New officers for the Loomis Dance Club were president, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Monroe; secretary, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rielli; and treasurer, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Morillas.There were 69 entries in the costume parade preceding the annual P.T.A. Carnival. Winners included Jackie Stallman, Jeff Dack, Ida Mae Miller, Paulena Johnson, Michele Mutoza, Mike Law, Debbie Miller, Becky Cooper, Charles Coleman, Irene Takemoto, David Nelthorpe, Cheryl Ellyson, Diane Bailey, Rhonda Nelthorpe, Colleen Colvin, Dean and Scott Winter, and Mark Rhodes.The Aero Chamber of Commerce planned to meet Oct. 26 in the Del Oro High School cafeteria. Speakers included the head of the newly formed South Placer Fire District.Dedication of the new Rocklin Post Office 3,303 square foot building, located at the corner of Granite and South Grove streets. Phillip Freer was postmaster, and Congressman Harold T. (Bizz) Johnson was among dignitaries invited to speak. A tour of the new Sierra College campus, conducted by district superintendent Harold Weaver, was also planned.Penrhyn Assembly, Order of Rainbow for Girls was working with Constable Percy Lanouette to gather toys to be distributed to children at Christmastime. Prisoners at the county jail were repairing broken toys.The Ladies Auxiliary of the United Pentecostal Church planned a ham dinner on Oct. 22 at the church on Saunders Avenue.25 YEARS AGO(Oct. 24, 1985 Issue)Preparing goblins for the Placer School Halloween party were Carolyn Basque's students Amber Oliver, Tim Rickabaugh, Loren Benbow and Jami Nicholson.Del Oro Band Director Ron Jones was surprised when band supporters presented him with a new Nissan pick-up truck.Parents Jani Frey and Kristen Vandewalker helped Sarah Sammon, Shannon Baker, Jessica Schroeder, Morgan Shelton and Nick Sims at the Loomis Community Nursery School.A benefit horse show was sponsored by the Loomis Basin Horsemen's Association. Among those earning awards were Peg Dare, Bev Hobbs and Rhonda Bowerman.Del Oro upset highly favored Roseville 14-10 in varsity football. Key plays were Marshall Leavens scoring on an option pass from Brian Williams, and Carl Miller making a large gain on a fake punt.Craig Nakata of Loomis caught his limit of steelhead on the Trinity River.Services were held for J. Evert Lunsford, 74, a native of Oklahoma. He and his wife Ruth moved to Loomis in 1959. Mr. Lunsford worked for Aerojet as a millwright and also owned Lunsford's Hancock Service Station in Loomis.10 YEARS AGO(Oct. 26, 2000 Issue)Fruit rancher Bob Hansen was the guest speaker at the Loomis Basin Historical Society.Rhonda Nelthorpe Morillas, Hazel Hineline and Norm Hile were three candidates for two Loomis Town Council seats.Drum majorette Kate Nitta led the Del Oro Band down Taylor Road during the 22nd Annual Band Spectacular.Stephanie White, Veronica Kendell and Erica Graves helped the Del Oro water polo team defeat Roseville 8-6.Hal and Judy Albertsen volunteered many hours to help CIMBL pick up roadside trash.
