Auburn Area Democratic Club to host Auburn Interfaith Food Closet, Public School Strong

Two hot topics headline the Auburn Area Democratic Club meeting March 5. Join the AADC to socialize with pizza and drinks ($5 for one slice, $9 for two) in the Rose Room at Auburn City Hall, 1225 Lincoln Way, starting at 5:45 p.m. The formal meeting will start at 6:30 and conclude by 8. Bring your ideas, your energy and a friend. Auburn Interfaith Food Closet Across America, including Auburn, there are people whose lives are impacted by events beyond their control. It may be illness, mental instability or traumatic crises. People experiencing life-changing events may rely on government services to survive. In fact, that is a key purpose of government, to care for people when they are unable to care for themselves. Due to the recent pullback of federal support, the homeless and those who suffer from food insecurity need assistance. AIFC provides access to nutritious food to people in need. AIFC will present the impact of its work, thanks to generous donations within the community. Its mission is to provide "nutritious food to those in need, preserving their dignity and encouraging self-reliance." AADC is asking attendees to consider donating food items or checks at its March 5 meeting. Items in need are canned meat or tuna, canned fruit, canned vegetables, diced tomatoes, peanut butter and soup. A complete list of items can be found on their website at https://auburnfoodcloset.org. Public School Strong AADC will also welcome Public School Strong members Annie Bowler and Carol Koons, who will talk about the role of school boards in making major policy decisions that directly impact what and how children are taught. Bowler and Koons are coordinators with Public School Strong, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that attends school board meetings and monitors trustee actions to ensure they follow the law and act in the best interests of students.
