Author of women's sports book to speak in Auburn

In celebration of Women's History Month in March, The Hillmont at Remedy Supply at 875 Lincoln Way in Downtown Auburn will kick off its Community Connection series with local author Karen S. Rudolph on Saturday, March 7, at 10 a.m. She will present her newly released book, Sidelined No Longer: The Untold Story of Women's College Sports. Sidelined No Longer tells the story of how women fought for access, recognition and respect in an era that rarely welcomed them. In the process, they laid the foundation for the energy and excitement seen today in women's sports. "Anyone who cares about equity, leadership and the power of sport will find something that resonates here," said Rudolph, whose career spanned 20 years in sports media and 20 years teaching and coaching at the high school level. John Anderson, a longtime ESPN SportsCenter host who currently is a journalism professor at the University of Missouri, endorsed the book. "Everybody Watches Women's Sports – the catchy T-shirt slogan of today – was, like so many seemingly overnight success stories, years, even decades in the making," Anderson said. "The fascinating, the factions, the fighting and, eventually, the fruition and fulfillment of what women's athletics could and should be are on these pages. From the legislation to the legends (both athletes and administrators) who made it happen – the story of Sidelined No Longer is too good to ignore." The author will answer questions following the presentation, with books available for sale. They also can be purchased on Amazon and the e-commerce sites of Barnes & Noble, Target and Walmart. The event is open to the public, with coffee and cinnamon rolls available to buy.
