Former Mormon Bishop ordered to register as sex offender

A former Mormon Bishop has been ordered to register as a sex offender by the El Dorado County Superior Court. According to the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office, the Honorable Mark A. Ralphs ordered former Mormon Bishop Alan Roman Andrus to register as a sex offender. The court also sentenced Andrus to 32 days in county jail and probation. Officials said the sentence came after an El Dorado County Grand Jury convicted Andus of simple battery on Nov. 5, 2025; the jury acquitted Andrus of other sex crimes. To impose the sex registration requirement, the court made a specific finding that the crime was committed for purposes of sexual gratification, said the El Dorado County DA's Office. These types of registration requirements were implemented when "Megan's Law" was enacted in 1996. These laws require law enforcement to make information about registered sex offenders available to the public to enhance community safety. According to a public database, Andrus was a Mormon Bishop between 2004-2009. He was reportedly arrested in 2020 for sexually assaulting a woman in 2019. Andrus was found guilty of misdemeanor battery and sentenced to 32 days in jail and probation.
