Anthony Paul Greco II, "Paul", was born in San Francisco on September 1, 1944, while his father, Anthony Paul Greco Sr. was away, deployed in the South Pacific for World War II. Paul was raised in Point Arena, CA, (population 100) the oldest of 5 siblings, spending a majority of his childhood on his beloved grandfather's ranch, The John Stornetta dairy ranch. In high school, Paul was sent to St. Mary's College High School, a boarding school in Berkeley. After high school graduation in 1962, he attended San Jose State, Santa Rosa Jr. College, and eventually was the first person in his family to graduate from college at Chico State, 1968. As a vocation, he was primarily a high school physical education and health teacher, and basketball coach his entire professional career, starting at Victor Valley and Apple Valley high schools. He and Marilyn (Snow) married in 1971. In 1974 they moved to Auburn, where Paul taught at Kinney High and then taught and coached basketball at Roseville High since 1976, retiring in 2001. Paul was also the owner and operator of Greco Driver's Training for 30+ years, was a behind the wheel driving instructor for hundreds in Placer County. At one point in the mid-70's, he was the co-owner and operator of The Silver Palace, a restaurant in Old Town Sacramento, with his dear friend, the late/great, Nate Quok. His passion was coaching, and many of his friends in the area were the varsity football or basketball coaches, locally, for decades. He coached football at Apple Valley High, and boys basketball at Roseville High in the early 80's, where he was an assistant on Roseville High School's state championship team in 1982. He was the head women's basketball coach at Sierra college from 1986 to 1991, then coached at Weimar Hills Middle School and Lady Eagles Basketball Club for years after, retiring from coaching in 2022 at 78 years old. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Marilyn Snow Greco, and sons Vic (Katie), Alec (Chanie), and J.P. (Jordan), and his 11 grandchildren including Katie's two boys. Paul was very proud of his 3 sons. Vic, Alec, and JP all graduated from Colfax High School and all 3 played college football at Cal Poly, Fresno State, and Sierra College/San Jose St respectively. All three played their entire eligibility, earned athletic scholarships, and all graduated from their respective universities. He was a country boy. He loved hunting deer and elk, pheasant, dove and fishing. He loved a great campfire. He also loved collecting and drying mushrooms for the kitchen. He grew, cured and pickled olives. He made homemade vinegar, sausage, and jarred his own dill pickles . He was known for being a great cook, an incredible storyteller, and having a distinctly recognizable booming voice. He had a fiery disposition on the outside but a warm heart within. He was tall at 6'4", with a full head of hair throughout his days, and always wore a mustache or facial hair. In fact, his wife Marilyn never had seen him without a mustache. In 1971 Paul, Marilyn and friends, while on Spring Break in Northern Baja, stumbled upon a desolate beach 9 kilometers south of San Felipe. For 50 years Paul led a group of friends and family to camp on the exact same spot, where they'd make 3 meals a day on a chuck wagon and enjoy the vast beach at Punta Estrella, and the Sea of Cortez, for 4 generations of families. During those 50 years Paul would serve as emcee for skit night, Federali negotiator, co-head chef, and "CEO" of Greco/Quok excursions. If Paul wasn't in Baja you could find him at his family's ranch known as The Farm Center in Manchester, CA, or Lake Clementine in Auburn, boat camping, where he was a staple in both locations for 5 decades. Paul loved his family and friends, positively impacted anyone who crossed his path, took all comers and had more friends than enemies.
