Area JROTC groups to attend Placer County Navy League meeting in March

Placer County Council of the Navy League members and guests on March 16 will meet and hear from members and leadership of four of their sponsored youth groups: the California Maritime Academy, John F. Kennedy High School Marine Corps JROTC, Yuba City High School JROTC and Luther Burbank Navy JROTC. The Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (JROTC) is a voluntary program established by Congress and hosted in high schools across the United States. It's a four-year curriculum designed to foster citizenship, leadership and personal responsibility in the participating students. The program is not a recruiting tool but a character-building program, often led by retired Navy, Marine Corps and other service personnel. The California State University Maritime Academy in Vallejo is a public, four-year university focused on maritime engineering, transportation, international business and logistics. It's the only one of its kind on the West Coast and one of seven in the United States. It features a unique structure with hands-on training on the Training Ship Golden Bear and enjoys high post-graduation employment rates. Navy League dinner meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at the Auburn Veterans Memorial Hall, 100 East St. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a social hour, followed by dinner, and the meeting will begin at 6:30. The catered dinners are $22 per person, so reservations are necessary and may be made by calling Bonnie Potter at 530-823-2820 by Friday, March 13.
