City puts Roseville Parkway road widening project in gear

Roseville officials moved forward last month with a $3.5 million plan to widen Roseville Parkway, a multi-lane artery connecting North Roseville to South Roseville and Interstate 80. The numbers vary from two to three lanes. The Roseville City Council approved mitigation plans and other steps for the widening project at the Feb. 18 meeting. Construction is tentatively scheduled by summer. "This section of the Roseville Parkway corridor experiences heavy traffic congestion on a daily basis due in part to popular shopping and dining destinations in the area," said Roseville Engineer Karen Vences in her report to the council. The $3.5 million Phase 1 plan aims to widen the parkway from three lanes to four in each direction from Creekside Ridge Drive to East Gibson Drive. The first phase this year includes widening portions of the parkway from West Drive to Creekside Ridge Drive and at the Pleasant Grove Boulevard intersection, staff said. There will also be modifications to traffic signals, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, updated signing and striping and utility adjustments. Phase 1 includes: • Adding a third left-turn lane on southbound Pleasant Grove Boulevard onto eastbound Roseville Parkway. • Extending the right-turn lane on northbound Pleasant Grove Boulevard to eastbound Roseville Parkway. • Adding a bus turnout on Roseville Parkway between West Drive and Reserve Drive. • Intersection improvements at Roseville Parkway and Galleria Blvd. Phase 1 will incorporate improvements necessary for the ultimate roadway widening as originally planned, scheduled to be completed in Phase 2 when funding becomes available, staff said. Staff is working with property owners along Roseville Parkway to acquire necessary right-of-way for the project. Contingent on outstanding right-of-way acquisitions, Roseville officials expect to begin Phase 1 construction this summer, staff said. The $3.5 million price tag will be primarily funded from the special tax revenue generated in the North Central Roseville Community Facilities District No. 1, according to the report.
