Affordable housing in west Placer taking applications

An affordable housing project in Placer County is now accepting applications. Parkside at Sabre City is designed to expand rental and homeownership opportunities in west Placer County. The home community will feature 44 three- and four-bedroom primary residences paired with two-bedroom accessory dwelling units across 22 single-family lots and is aimed at providing a diverse range of housing options for income-eligible working families with the long-term goal of helping residents transition from renting to homeownership. A family of four earning up to $102,900 annually will qualify. Housing Trust Placer ultimately plans to convert the homes to deed-restricted, for-sale units, allowing future owners to build equity and keep a portion of the home's appreciation upon resale. By using manufactured construction, along with developer in-lieu fees from Placer County and grants from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, the homes are able to go to market for less than the average cost of affordable housing in the region. "For many families, renting affordable homes and owning a home in the communities where they work and contribute seemed like an impossible dream. But Housing Trust Placer, along with strong partnerships with local governments and businesses, is making it a reality," said Robyn van Ekelenburg, chief executive officer of Housing Trust Placer. Housing Trust Placer was formed in late 2019 following discussions between the North State Building Industry Association and Placer County to identify new ways to finance affordable housing. As an independent nonprofit, the trust is eligible for significant state and private grants not available to many traditional public-private partnerships.
