Sheriff's Office to open Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy for first time in 20 years

Placer County is making a significant investment in the future of public safety. The Placer County Board of Supervisors voted March 10 to approve a lease agreement turning Rock Creek Elementary School in Auburn into the temporary home of a brand-new regional law enforcement training academy — the first of its kind established in California in two decades. The first recruit class is set to begin training in August 2026, answering a surge in demand for peace officer standards and training academy space that has grown considerably across Northern California over the past five years. The academy will be led by Placer County Sheriff's Office instructors alongside partners from the Roseville Police Department and Nevada County Sheriff's Office, offering recruits a comprehensive curriculum that meets and exceeds state POST standards. The program is designed to serve Placer County and agencies throughout the broader region, giving neighboring communities a local pipeline for well-trained public safety professionals. Once construction wraps on the Sierra College Regional Public Safety Training Center, the academy will transition to its permanent home.
