Officials approve 3 new parks in Roseville

The Roseville City Council approved plans March 4 for two new parks in the Sierra Vista neighborhood and another in Campus Oaks. The council approved plans for a 2.6-acre park at Shimmer Falls Drive and Lakehaven Drive, and another 1.5-acre park project at Bright Star Road and Misty Ridge Drive in Sierra Vista. The council also approved plans for a 5.7-acre park in Campus Oaks. All three park sites are adjacent to open space. The yet-to-be-named Shimmer Falls park, or "JM-51" project, includes grading and utilities, a playground, shaded picnic area, walking paths, turf area, plants and irrigation. The project is estimated to cost $715,000. "Additive alternates" have been identified at Shimmer Falls to allow for menu-style bidding and include a half-court basketball court, additional turf and irrigation, sod in lieu of seeded turf and additional concrete pathways, staff said. Meanwhile, architects estimate for the 1.5-acre, JM-52 neighborhood park site at Bright Star is $475,000, staff said. Features planned for JM-52 include a playground, paved and natural walking paths, picnic area and seating, turf area, planting and irrigation. Additive alternates include a shade structure, additional turf and irrigation, sod in lieu of seeded turf and more concrete pathways. The council also approved plans for CO-61, the $1.4 million, 5.7-acre neighborhood park pegged at Ashbrook St. and Knightsbridge Lane in Campus Oaks. Amenities planned for the Ashbrook park include a playground, picnic area, walking paths, turf area, planting and irrigation. Additive alternates for CO-61 include a swing set, a half-court basketball court, a shade structure over the picnic area, additional turf and irrigation, a paved bike trail and a play area shade structure. The architect's estimate is $1,395,000. Maintenance costs will be about $16,000 an acre per year and funded by Sierra Vista and Campus Oaks facility districts, city staff said. Bids for all three projects are scheduled open in late March. Staff plans to return to the city council in May with contract winners.
