Officer-involved shooting injures 2 ED deputies, suspect

Two El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies are recovering from injuries sustained during an officer-involved shooting on Thursday, March 12. The deputies injured in the line of duty are Deputy J. Stillman and Deputy C. Reimche. El Dorado County officials said they are still in a hospital but "in good spirits and extremely thankful for the outpouring of support from the community." The suspect accused of shooting the deputies was identified as Steven Carter, 66, of Camino. Carter was also shot during the incident and was recovering in an area hospital in stable condition. The events unfolded around 7:25 a.m. March 12. According to El Dorado County Sheriff's Office officials, they responded to a call that a PG&E crew was shot at; one employee was injured but it was unclear if the employee was shot or injured in some other way. While Sheriff's deputies were on the scene, they attempted to apprehend the suspect, later identified as Carter, and an officer-involved shooting erupted. Shots were fired and Deputies Stillman and Reimche were hit; suspect Carter was also shot in the exchange. In a social media post, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office published a message of gratitude to the community, which expressed overwhelming concern for the injured deputies.
