Online reading program starts for WPUSD students

Calling all Western Placer Unified students and families, the Lincoln Library has partnered with the Friends of the Lincoln Public Library to launch a new online reading program, "Your Next Chapter," to see which school can read the most books this spring while earning cash prizes and more. "We've partnered with the Friends of the Lincoln Public Library to offer huge financial rewards to the top three Western Placer Unified School District elementary schools, first place wins $1,000, second place wins $750, and third place wins $500," commented the Lincoln Library on Facebook. "Funds will be used by the winning schools to purchase new books and reading materials." Doesn't that sound fun? Here's how to participate: To register, sign up at lincolnca.beanstack.com or download the Beanstack app, select your school and make sure to list your school during registration so your hours count toward their total, and log your reading by tracking your minutes through March and April. "You can win prizes beyond helping your school, students can also earn individual prizes including their very own forever book," said the library. "Our hope in piloting this program is, first and foremost, to encourage reading in our youth while building a sense of community and school pride. We are also hopeful that this program will help families become familiar with the Beanstack platform, which we also use to support our summer reading program," library employee Samuel Schlafer said. "By having students more familiar with the platform while still in school, the goal is to make the transition to summer reading easier, increase reading during the break, and prevent summer learning loss so they can head back to class in August ready to learn."
