Exhibit examining community tradition of Rodeo opens

The longtime cherished tradition of the Folsom Rodeo is being featured in a display and exhibition hosted by the Folsom History Museum. The exhibit, Ride 'Em Cowboy, kicked off March 12 and rides on until Jan. 4, 2027. Organizers say visitors to the exhibit will step into Folsom's history from the 1960s to today, told through one of the city's most recognizable traditions: the Folsom Rodeo. As Folsom grew, the rodeo grew with it, becoming a celebration of community, spectacle and western identity. But the rodeo's story isn't just about cheers and cowboy hats. It also invites thinking about the animals at the center of the arena and the complicated questions that come with turning ranch work into entertainment. For some, the rodeo represents heritage, pride and shared memories. For others, it raises deeper questions about power, control and the treatment of livestock. Ride 'Em Cowboy! explores these perspectives and the voices that have shaped this tradition over time. The Folsom Museum is located at 823 Sutter Street in Historic Folsom.
