Colfax stop planned for 'Big Boy'

The Placer-Sierra Railroad Heritage Society meeting on Tuesday, March 24, will present the latest on the return of Union Pacific Railroad Locomotive 4014 to Placer County. Colfax Mayor Caroline McCully will share the latest plans for Big Boy's stop in Colfax. In 2024, because of delays caused by a tree falling across the tracks in front of the locomotive, the 4014 coasted through Colfax without its planned stop. Next month, Union Pacific is planning a 45-minute stop in downtown Colfax, and the town is planning some special activities, including music, food and craft vendors. The train is due to arrive in Roseville on April 9 and is scheduled to stay until April 12, when it departs for Ogden, Utah. The Colfax stop will be from noon to 12:45 p.m., according to up.com. Local historian Roger Staab will present background on Big Boy and discuss and compare the giant locomotive at the California State Railroad Museum, the Cab-Forward number 4294.
