Roseville holds annual Council Priorities Workshop

The City of Roseville held its Council Priorities Workshop last month, where presentations from staff gave council and the public a chance to hear updates, discuss our city's needs and opportunities, and articulate our vision. This annual event is a chance to acknowledge what we've accomplished, to review what needs attention, and to make sure our priorities reflect the needs and aspirations of the community we serve. To set the tone for the day, each councilmember reflected on the values that shape our governance. Long-term stewardship stands out as my guiding principle as we build on the work of past councils and ensure a stable foundation for future councils. Councilmembers also emphasized respect, public trust, safety, financial stability and candor as values that drive our work every day. Another key driver is our "One Roseville" philosophy. While each councilmember represents a distinct area, our commitment is to the city as a whole. This shared mindset ensures our decisions consistently reflect what's best for all who work here or call Roseville home. Council sets the vision, and our staff brings it to life with care and expertise. We aim for a steady balance between fiscal responsibility and meaningful investment. The workshop presentations reflected that balance well. Our Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department shared that the Placer Valley Soccer Complex, which opened late last year, is already proving to be a major draw. With 22 tournaments on the books for 2026, it's quickly becoming a regional hub. I was especially intrigued by the upcoming Quad Cup, which will bring 50 teams and 1,500 visitors to Roseville to play Quadball, formerly known as Quidditch. The complex is expected to generate $16 million in direct economic impact and more than $22 million indirectly, surpassing initial projections. Combined with the full slate of events at our softball and aquatics facilities, it's clear sports tourism is becoming a meaningful part of Roseville's economy. Our police chief shared that the department is continuing the planned rollout of Beat 8 to serve the far west side as that area grows. This expansion aligns with the encouraging trends we're seeing in our crime data. Citywide crime fell by 8% in 2025, following a 4.62% reduction in 2024. These improvements reflect several factors: full staffing, strong investigative work targeting organized retail crime, the continued development of our Real Time Crime Center, changes from Proposition 36, and close coordination with the District Attorney's Office. While we remain attentive to emerging challenges, these results underscore the steady, focused work of our officers and professional staff. Our Development Services Department provided an overview of current and forecasted residential and commercial activity, as well as regional growth occurring along our borders. Roseville continues to attract new residents and business investment thanks to our competitively priced, reliable utilities, responsive local government and high quality of life. Staff also discussed a new online tool coming this spring called "Know Your Boundaries," which will allow users to enter an address to see whether it is inside or outside city limits – and, if it is inside, which school district, public‑safety providers, utility services and council district serve that location. Roseville's progress is a shared effort, and I'm grateful for everyone who takes part in shaping our community.
