Lincoln nanny arrested for child abuse

A Lincoln nanny was arrested March 16 on allegations of child abuse and later released on bail, as an investigation into the case continues. Police arrested Suzanne Michelle Buhler, 41, after city landscapers reportedly recorded her abusing a child at a public park; they later followed her to a residential home, where police were called and the arrest was made. "On March 16, Lincoln Police Department officers responded to Markham Ravine Park for a welfare check after a reporting party expressed concern that a young child was being abused by an adult female," Lincoln Police said in a press release. "Based on the information obtained during the investigation, Buhler was arrested and booked on felony child abuse charges. The child had visible injuries consistent with the reported assault and was provided appropriate assistance. The child is safe and with their family." Investigators also learned that before this incident, Buhler advertised nanny services on multiple internet sites/apps and may have provided childcare services to other families in the community. "My husband and I have a 22-month-old daughter named Paisley, we recently hired a nanny off of Care.com to watch our child full time, on March 16 Suzanne Buhler took our daughter to a public park, she started beating my child at this park, she pushed her down the slide, punched her in her stomach, and slapped her across the face," the victim's mother, Angie Tuttle, said in a social media video. "The landscaper gave the video to the police and the police came to my home to arrest Buhler on March 16. I am making this video because my daughter is a victim of child abuse. If anyone else has experienced this with Suzanne Buhler, I am begging you to reach out to me, she needs to be in prison." Buhler is known to moderate numerous online "Moms of Lincoln" Facebook groups where mothers in the community can chat and connect with each other while setting up play dates, recommend nanny services and share parenting advice or services. As of the publication of this article, all online groups have been deleted. "Always trust your gut, I had a feeling this lady was bad news. All the mamas in Lincoln Moms of Littles and Lincoln Pay it Forward groups just be warned, this lady is weird," commented McKenna Shepherd. Before this case, Buhler had an ongoing investigation regarding another incident with a child involving injury under her watch. "In 2023, the Lincoln Police Department investigated an incident in which a child was reported to have been injured while under Buhler's care. Our detectives conducted a criminal investigation at that time. Based on the evidence available then, detectives determined the case did not meet the legal threshold of probable cause to make an arrest or to proceed with criminal filing," said Zach Eaton, Lincoln Police Public Information Officer. "As a result of the new allegations in this current case, we are reopening the 2023 investigation and submitted it to the Placer County District Attorney's Office for review. We cannot comment further on specific investigative details while the cases are active, but we encourage anyone with information or concerns related to childcare services involving Buhler to contact the Lincoln Police Department."
