Registration is live for 82nd Wheelbarrow Races

One of El Dorado County's most iconic and anticipated traditions is back, and organizers are encouraging participants to plan ahead. Registration for the 82nd annual Wheelbarrow Races is now live with spots expected to fill quickly. Interest in the historic event has surged in recent years. In 2025, multiple races sold out before race day, reflecting the growing popularity of the event among longtime locals and first-time participants alike. Hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Placerville, the Wheelbarrow Races are the organization's signature annual fundraiser. The Wheelbarrow Races celebrate Placerville's Gold Rush heritage with a spirited, community-wide competition that draws racers and spectators from across the region. Participants race through an obstacle course set up on the racetrack at Placerville Speedway during the El Dorado County Fair, combining athleticism, teamwork and a healthy dose of fun.
