Loomis seeks lifeguards for summer swim season

As temperatures rise and summer approaches, Loomis Town is recruiting staff for an exciting swim season and looking for locals to join the team. Loomis is now hiring lifeguards and swim program supervisors for the summer swim season. The Town was forced to cancel the 2025 season at the Del Oro High School pool without enough lifeguards. Lifeguards play a critical role in the safety of all pool visitors while helping create a fun, welcoming environment for families. Responsibilities include monitoring pool activity, enforcing safety rules and responding to emergencies when needed. For those with more experience, supervisor positions are also available. Supervisors will help oversee daily operations, support lifeguard staff and ensure the program runs smoothly. The Town is offering competitive pay, with lifeguards earning $22 per hour and supervisors earning $30. "This program is such an important part of our community each summer," said Mayor Jan Clark-Crets. "We're looking for responsible, energetic individuals who want to be part of a team that keeps our residents safe while creating a fun and memorable experience for everyone." Positions are ideal for students, teachers or anyone looking for a rewarding seasonal job. Applicants must meet required certifications and be committed to maintaining a safe and professional environment. Working for the Town of Loomis swim program is more than just a summer job, it's an opportunity to gain valuable skills in leadership, teamwork and emergency response, all while serving the community, said Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce Director Heather Helwig. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply soon, as positions are limited, staff said. Besides certification, lifeguard applicants must be at least age 15 and supervisors 18. "These positions offer a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, staying active and making a positive impact in the community," Helwig said. Meanwhile, Loomis Town has had a parks and recreation swim agreement with Del Oro High School since 1995, with free swim days on most Fridays in June and July, staff said. Built in 1969, the Del Oro pool has had a long history of community use, including the Loomis Dolphins Swim Team. The daily minimum staffing requirement for summer swim is three, or two team members and a supervisor. However, the Town must have six lifeguards on staff, officials said. Approved lifeguard training and certification options are available on the Town website. Those hired will be reimbursed for training class, staff said.
