Kids Fishing Derby canceled in Auburn

The Kids Fishing Derby scheduled for this Saturday, March 28, has been canceled due to water temperatures being too high in the Regional Park pond. Representatives with the Placer Sportsmen (the event coordinators) met with ARD staff Monday morning for one last round of water temperature readings. Unfortunately, the temps were found to still be too high, and the Placer Sportsmen made the call to cancel the derby. Trout need cool water to survive, and the average temperatures in the pond exceeded the safe limit. A big thank you to ARD staff, who tried valiantly over the past two weeks to lower the temperature of the pond water by draining it down and letting it fill with cooler water from the ARD ditch, which is fed by Rock Creek. "We tried this method a couple times, however our efforts could not keep up with the unseasonably warm (hot) temperatures we experienced this March," District Administrator Kahl Muscott said in an email.
