Bear River wins 5th straight; Del Oro tops St. Francis, Granite Bay

The Bear River High School softball team extended its winning streak to five Thursday afternoon, downing Mira Loma 14-4 in Pioneer Valley League play. The Bruins (8-4 overall, 4-0 PVL) scored nine runs in the first inning and never looked back. Bear River totaled seven hits, drew 10 walks and logged an on-base percentage of .700. Averie Lopez went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and a triple while scoring twice. Acelynn Yurek had a hit, drove in a run and scored twice, while Ella Bailey had a hit and an RBI. Lottie Smith reached base four times, collected a hit and had three of the Bruins' 12 stolen bases. In the circle, Caycee Long allowed two hits and four runs while striking out five in three innings. AnaMarin Hemings allowed one hit and struck out five in two scoreless innings. The dominant Bruins have outscored PVL opponents 50-18 and tallied 19 more runs than the next highest-scoring team in PVL play. Bear River has scored double digits in three of four league games and four of its last five contests. Del Oro 10, St. Francis 7: Del Oro overcame a slow start to down St. Francis on Friday, then blanked Granite Bay 4-0 on Monday. The Golden Eagles trailed St. Francis 7-4 through two innings, then shut out the Troubadours the rest of the way. Del Oro (7-3, 5-1 SFL) totaled 12 hits and was led by Avery Enyart, who went 3 for 3 and scored two runs. Caelyn Campos had two doubles and an RBI, while Chloe Champas had two hits and three RBIs. Kate Brown and Emma Johnson each homered for the Golden Eagles. Freshman Kathryn Popovski earned the win in relief, striking out seven and allowing just one hit over 4⅓ innings. Freshman Karis Herstam struck out one and walked two in the final inning to earn the save. On Monday, junior Mikayla Finn pitched a three-hitter and struck out six with no walks to beat Granite Bay.
