Placer County seeks student artists for Sun Safety Poster Contest

Young artists in Placer County have a chance to show off their creativity while spreading an important health message this spring. Placer County Health and Human Services is inviting students in kindergarten through sixth grade to participate in the SunWise 2026 Poster Contest, a hand-drawn art competition tied to Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May. Entries are due no later than April 25. Students are asked to create an original, hand-drawn poster on standard 8.5-by-11-inch unlined paper that illustrates at least three sun safety tips, such as wearing sunscreen, seeking shade during peak sun hours, sporting a wide-brimmed hat or checking the daily UV index. No copyrighted characters or personal information may appear on the artwork, and only one entry per student will be accepted. All submitted posters will be displayed publicly in the Placer County Health and Human Services lobby and on the county website during late May and early June. The top five finalists will each receive an award certificate and a bundle of sun-safe themed prizes. Posters may be mailed or dropped off flat — unrolled and unfolded — to Ashley Pen at Placer County Health and Human Services, 11434 B Ave., Auburn, CA 95603. Electronic entries in PDF format scanned at 300 dpi in TIFF format are also accepted by email at apen@placer.ca.gov.
