Homeowners can learn how simple landscaping choices can help reduce wildfire risk during a free Fire-Smart Expo and demonstration garden opening at South Placer Fire Protection District Station 18 in Loomis. The event starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at South Placer Fire District Station 18 in Loomis, 5840 Horseshoe Bar Road, and is hosted by the UC Master Gardeners of Placer County, South Placer Fire Protection District, Placer County Water Agency, the UC Cooperative Extension, Green Acres Nursery & Supply and Firewise USA. Climate change is creating warmer and drier conditions, and as a result, wildfires are becoming more frequent and severe. Developing a fire-smart landscape helps homeowners safeguard their homes and neighborhoods from destructive fires.
