Placer SPCA braces for influx of kittens

It may sound adorable, but it's actually a potentially dire situation: Kitten season is in full swing in the region, which means local shelters will experience a dramatic influx of hundreds of kittens in need of help. Placer SPCA is sending out a call to the community for that help: They say they need support to help care for vulnerable kittens who will be in need of lifesaving support. Last year, Placer SPCA took in more than 800 kittens and officials there say they expect even more this year. To meet the huge need, Placer SPCA is asking the community for help with fostering kittens and giving donations. Placer SPCA is also offering advice on what to do if you find a kitten; they say community members play an important role in helping kittens safely. Placer SPCA encourages the public to assess the situation before intervening, as many kittens are not abandoned and may have a mother nearby. • Kittens 3 months or younger, with or without their mother, can be brought to the Veterinary and Foster Care Center at 150 Tahoe Ave., Roseville). • Kittens 3 months or older without their mother can be brought to the Intake Center (150 Corporation Yard Road, Roseville). Note: Placer SPCA is only able to accept stray animals found within the City of Roseville.Foster volunteers are critical to saving the lives of kittens, especially neonatal kittens who require round-the-clock care. Foster commitments typically range from two to eight weeks, while emergency cases may require just 3-5 days until a more permanent foster family is found. Placer SPCA provides all necessary supplies and support, making it easy for community members to step in and help. As an added incentive, fosters who adopt a kitten in their care will have the adoption fee waived. Additionally, referrals from fosters receive 50 percent off adoption fees.
