Bulldogs beat Jesuit, 3-2, to take series

For the first time since 2014, Folsom High's varsity baseball team has won a series against perennial power Jesuit. Folsom accomplished the feat last Thursday with their second 3-2 win in as many games against the Marauders, as the Bulldogs took the series two games to one. Folsom won the game behind excellent pitching from starter Caden Heitmeyer, who pitched 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and five strikeouts. Alex Blount got the last five outs and earned the save, as he allowed one hit and struck out one batter. Folsom scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Blount started the inning by striking out, but reached first on a wild pitch. Ethan Tietz sacrificed Blount to second before Devin Schuster struck out for the second out of the inning. Manny Orange then drew a walk and Kamren Avila was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Gavin Tietz drove in two runs with a single to left field before Blake Sargent singled to score Avila. That's all the runs that Heitmeyer would need. "Caden Heitmeyer was phenomenal on the mound, as well as our defense behind him," Folsom coach Sal Rivera said. "He competed and got quick outs by pounding the zone. Our hitters did a tremendous job grinding out at bats all series. Senior (captain) Gavin Tietz had a big two-out, two RBI hit and (frosh) Blake Sargent had a big hit in the same inning to give us a three-run lead. We got the ball to Alex Blount for the save. Anytime we send Blount out, we are very confident in closing that game. "The series win is a big step in the right direction for our program. We look forward to building upon it and moving forward. We have a great challenge and opportunity on Thursday at Valley Christian, as they are always state ranked."
