Supernova park plans approved in Roseville

Roseville officials approved plans last week for a stellar park near Westbrook Boulevard and Earl Rush Drive. The Roseville City Council approved plans and specifications March 18 for the $580,000 unnamed "FD-50" neighborhood park site at Supernova Lane and Nova Place in the space-themed neighborhood. The site can be reached from Westbrook via Wandering Star Drive. The modest park joins John L. Williams and Rocky Rockholm parks nearby to serve the immediate neighborhood. The regional 95-acre Denio Family Park and West Park High School are several miles to the north. The local park will include a playground, shaded picnic area, paved walking paths, multi-use grass turf area, plantings and irrigation. The project is estimated to cost $580,000 for the base bid, staff said. Alternate sub-projects are set to allow for menu-style bidding with another playground option, more turf and irrigation and sod instead of seeded turf. A concrete basketball half-court is also a possibility instead of plantings and irrigation. "The purpose of including an alternative play structure option is to allow for a unique park identity based on the final park name, which is yet to be determined," said project manager Josh Cervantes in his council report. Bids are scheduled to be opened this month. Staff plans to return to council in May to award the contract. Monies were included in the FD-50 budget in the Sierra Vista fund. Maintenance costs will be about $16,000 per-acre, per-year, staff said. Meanwhile, there are two distinct Sierra Vista areas in the city. Besides this large Sierra Vista Specific Plan in the new west end, there is still the 120-year-old Historic Sierra Vista neighborhood near Roseville High School.
