Lincoln police remind drivers of upcoming road closures for 'Big Boy' train stop

The Lincoln Police Department reminds drivers of upcoming road closures this Thursday, April 9. "Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014 will be traveling through the area, and temporary roadway closures will be in place to ensure public safety," police stated in a press release. "Other crossings may have temporary closures as the train moves through town." The upcoming roadway closures include; 7th Street: Closed at H Street (Eastbound traffic). Closed at Lincoln Blvd (Westbound traffic). 6th Street: Closed at H Street (Eastbound traffic). Closed at Lincoln Blvd (Westbound traffic). These roads will be closed from 3-5 p.m. If you plan to watch "Big Boy" in action, there's more to keep in mind than just road closures. State laws strictly regulate where spectators can stand, and what they can and cannot do near railroad property and train tracks. California law CVC 22451-22452 requires drivers to stop at least 15 feet from railroad tracks when a train is visible, flashing lights are active, gates are lowering, or a warning is audible. You must not cross until gates rise and lights stop flashing. Blocking intersections or lacking space to clear tracks is illegal and dangerous. Under California Code 22451, pedestrians must stop at railroad crossings when gates are closed, closing, or when warning signals flash. Pedestrians are prohibited from going around or under closed crossing gates. It is illegal to walk on or beside railroad tracks, except at designated crossings. Gate Violation (CVC 22451b) Pedestrians must never pass through, around, or under a closed crossing gate. "Please stay off the railroad tracks and remain in designated safe areas. Do not approach the train unless directed by authorized train personnel. Please plan ahead, expect delays, and use alternate routes during this time," police stated.
