Man accused of driving stolen car leads law enforcement in chase

A man driving a stolen car lead Placer County Sheriff's deputies on a chase Saturday morning which travelled into Roseville on Industrial Avenue. At that point, Roseville Police officers joined in the effort to catch the suspect. The chase began when Placer County Sheriff's deputies spotted someone driving a stolen white Ford Ranger at around 8 am Saturday morning; once discovered, instead of stopping, the suspect took off and kicked off a chase into the city of Roseville. Once on Roseville city streets, the suspect continued the pursuit despite being chased by multiple law enforcement officers; police said at one point the suspect attempted to hit one of the Roseville Police officers. The chase only ended when law enforcement were able to deploy spike strips on Industrial Avenue. Roseville PD said they also deployed a 40 mm rubber round to break the suspect's windows as he continued to be non-compliant. A K-9 unit was used to help get the suspect out of the car and taken into custody. The suspect is identified as 45-year-old Stephen Klug; after he was medically cleared at a hospital, he was booked into the South Placer County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon for trying to hit police officers and felony evasion, resisting an executive officer. Roseville PD said Klug will face other charges from the Placer County Sheriff's Office.
