Additional photos, video sought in 'No Kings' protest BB gun shooting

The Placer County Sheriff's Office confirmed Monday it continues to investigate the BB gun assaults during a "No Kings" protest in Auburn on March 28. Reports of individuals being shot with a BB gun during the protest near the intersection of Bell Road and Highway 49 were received around 2 p.m. March 28. The Sheriff's Office confirmed six victims sustained minor injuries and the suspect vehicle was not located, despite a search of the area with its Falcon 30 helicopter and assisting CHP units. The Sheriff's Office reported numerous tips and information have been received from the public since the incident and investigators continue to work to narrow the search to identify the individual and vehicle involved. "We appreciate the community's cooperation and the individuals who have already come forward," the Sheriff's Office said Monday. Investigators believe additional video or photos that could help identify the suspect may exist. The Sheriff's Office is now asking for anyone who was present at the protest to review their photos and video for any sighting of the incident, suspect or vehicle involved. Individuals who were struck by a BB and have not yet reported the incident are also encouraged to contact the department. The Sheriff's Office confirmed the six identified have been contacted by deputies. According to the Sheriff's Office, the incident is being investigated as a felony violation of California Penal Code 245, assault with a deadly weapon.
