Auburn historic courthouse to honor Parkinson's Awareness for 2nd year

The Placer County Historic Courthouse in Auburn will again shine blue on Saturday, April 11, in honor of Parkinson's Awareness Day. Parkinson's Disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that predominantly affects dopamine-producing neurons in a specific area of the brain which could cause symptoms such as gait or balance problems, limb stiffness and slowness of movement. The Parkinson's Foundation confirmed it strives to reach more people and improve the lives of those affected by Parkinson's through greater awareness during Parkinson's Awareness Month (April). Donna Cline, development manager for the Parkinson's Foundation, said she again reached out to Placer County requesting the courthouse be lit blue. Placer County confirmed the courthouse will be lit for the Parkinson's cause on Saturday. This will be the second time the courthouse's colonnade will don blue on April 11. In addition to raising awareness during April, Cline confirmed the Parkinson's Foundation will also host its annual Moving Day Sacramento to raise funding to support the foundation's mission on May 30. "At Moving Day walks across the country, we're fighting Parkinson's and celebrating movement — proven to help manage Parkinson's symptoms — and we're doing it together," the foundation states. The walk will be held at 9 a.m. at Sutter's Fort State Historic Park, 2701 L Street in Sacramento. This year's goal is to raise $145,000. According to the website as of Tuesday morning, 85 percent ($123,748) has been raised.
