Active pipe bomb, meth found during traffic stop

An individual was arrested Tuesday morning after the discovery of an active pipe bomb following a traffic stop. A Placer County Sheriff's deputy initiated the stop just outside of Roseville in the commercial area near Industrial Avenue. According to the Sheriff's Office, the deputy immediately noticed a suspicious metal pipe with end caps and a fuse on the vehicle's center console. The vehicle's driver and passenger were removed and the Sheriff's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to the area. The Sheriff's Office confirmed EOD personnel safely retrieved the device, conducted an x-ray and the device was determined to be an active pipe bomb. A search of the vehicle also revealed suspected meth. According to the Sheriff's Office, the driver was also found to have multiple outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants. The individual, identified as Jacob Shawn Vanwagoner, 32, was booked into the South Placer Jail with bail set at $590,000. According to the online inmate details, Vanwagoner was charged with possession of a destructive device, possession of a controlled substance, a felony Sacramento County warrant for first-degree burglary, a felony Plumas County warrant for grand theft and a misdemeanor Sacramento County warrant for possession of a controlled substance. Vanwagoner is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
